Description:

USB Memory Stick Tester is a small application designed to help testing removable storage media (such as USB memory sticks) for defects.

Platform:

Currently USB Memory Stick Tester works only on Windows XP. It would probably work under Windows 2000, but it might not work under older versions.

Unfortunately there is no plan to port the application to other platforms, but if some is willing to port, I would be more than happy to help.

Purpose:

I recently purchased a USB stick from a second hand store, and I got trouble using it. I developed this program to help me track down what the problem was. ( It turned out that although I bought a 256 MB and the system memory would recognize it as 256MB, anything going over 128MB was coming back as 0)

On the other hand, even a good memory has a limited read/write number of cycles. The program can help track down such problems.

License:

I have released this program under GPL License, please see http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html for details.

Limitations:

The current version is only able to test the unused space from the disk. To test the whole disk (well, not 100% whole), you would have to erase it upfront.

Future improvments:

Have the tool mark the bad the bad spots on the disk so it could be still used.
